Myobrace for Teens

Myobrace for Teens

What is Myobrace? Myobrace for teens is a 4 stage appliance system designed speifically to correct poor oral habits while treating upper and lower jaw development problems. This is the most effective after a teen’s permanent front teeth have come through.

The appliances correct poor oral habits which can cause of crooked teeth, while providing light forces to help expand the upper jaw and align the teeth into their correct and natural position

Myobrace Treatment Considerations

Treatment time can differ depending on the biological adaptability of each patient. For a successful outcome the Myobrace appliance must be used daily for 1-2 hours plus overnight while sleeping. This makes for a much more desirable treatment vs traditional braces that are worn 24/7.

Regular monitoring by the dentists at Serentity Dental in Schaumburg is essential for successful treatment to avoid unwanted treatment complications.

Goals of Myobrace Treatment

  • End mouth breathing. When a child can breathe through the nose, they are ensuring the development of a healthy airway
  • To assist the development of the upper and lower jaws, and to achieve the correct bite.
  • no lip activity when swallowing, which allows the front teeth to develop correctly
  • Improved dental alignment (straight teeth)
  • Improved facial development

What causes orthodontic problems?

At 9-12 years of age, children are getting the remainder of their permanent teeth. During this time, teeth crowding and poor jaw alignment can become more severe as the adult face develops. Children this age are also susceptible to to forming unhealthy habits such as, mouth breathing, incorrect sip and tongue function (known as poor myofunctional habits). These habits are the major causes of crooked teeth. As these issues continue through the permanent dentition – generally requiring complex orthodontic treatment. This is not the solution as braces and extractions do not resulve these problems are are best treated as soon as they are evident.
